Welcome to Woolsy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.
Woolsy is designed with privacy as a core principle. Unlike most apps, we collect virtually no personal data. Almost everything you do inside the app stays on your device.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 What We DON'T Collect
- We don't collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifiers.
- We don't collect your location data.
- We don't use advertising analytics or behavioral tracking tools.
- We don't collect your device's contacts or photos.
- We don't monitor your screen time or app usage patterns.
2.2 What We DO Store Locally
The vast majority of your data is stored locally on your device only:
- Stash Data: Your inventory of yarn, hooks, and needles.
- Patterns: The PDFs you import and your generated smart patterns.
- Progress: Your current row counts and project status.
- Subscription Status: Whether you have an active premium subscription.
This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
2.3 What We Store Securely (Cloud)
The only information we may store on our secure databases (via Supabase) are basic, anonymous answers you provide during the initial onboarding questionnaire to help customize your app experience. This data is not tied to your personal identity.
3. How We Use Information
The minimal information stored locally on your device is used solely for:
- Making the app function as intended (managing stash, maintaining smart patterns, and tracking rows).
- Managing your subscription status (through Apple's payment systems).
We do not use your information for advertising, analytics, marketing, or any other purpose.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Local Storage Primarily
All app data (patterns and stash) is stored locally on your device using secure system-provided storage mechanisms. This data is:
- Protected by your device's security features.
- Automatically deleted when you uninstall the app.
4.2 Security
For the anonymous onboarding data we sync securely to the cloud, the app uses secure coding practices. All data stored on your device is protected by iOS security features. The app does not create network connections except for subscription validation, fetching standard tutorial videos, securely saving basic onboarding preferences to Supabase, and sending error and crash reports to Sentry.
5. Third-Party Services
5.1 Apple App Store
When you download Woolsy, you interact with Apple's App Store. Apple has its own privacy policy. Subscription purchases are processed by Apple. We never see or store your payment information. When you subscribe:
- Apple processes the payment.
- Apple confirms your subscription status to the app (via RevenueCat).
- We receive only a confirmation that you have an active subscription (no personal or payment details).
5.3 Sentry (Error & Crash Reporting)
We use Sentry to monitor app stability and diagnose crashes. When an error occurs, Sentry may collect:
- Device type, OS version, and app version.
- Anonymous error logs, stack traces, and crash reports.
- General performance metrics (e.g., app launch time, screen load time).
This data is used solely to identify and fix bugs. It does not include your name, email, or any personal identifiers, and it is not used for marketing or advertising.
5.4 Session Replays
We may use Sentry's Session Replay feature to help us understand and reproduce issues that cause errors. Session replays capture a visual reconstruction of your interactions with the app when an error occurs. This may include:
- Screen interactions such as taps, scrolls, and navigation.
- UI state at the time of the error.
Session replays are anonymized — text inputs and sensitive UI elements are masked by default. Replays are used exclusively for debugging and are not shared with any third party beyond Sentry's infrastructure. You can learn more about how Sentry handles data in their privacy policy.
5.5 No Advertising or Marketing Analytics
Beyond Sentry for error monitoring, we do not use any other third-party analytics or tracking services. This means:
- No Google Analytics
- No Firebase Analytics
- No advertising networks
- No behavioral tracking for marketing purposes
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Access Your Data
Since almost all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete access to it at all times. You can view and modify your patterns and stash within the app.
6.2 Delete Your Data
To delete all your app data, simply uninstall the Woolsy app from your device. All local data will be permanently deleted.
6.3 Opt-Out
Since we don't collect personal data, there's nothing to opt out of. Simply uninstall the app if you no longer wish to use it.
7. Children's Privacy
Woolsy is suitable for users aged 4 and older. Since we do not collect any personal data from any users, we also do not collect data from children. The app does not require account creation, does not ask for personal information, and stores all data locally on the device. Parents and guardians can manage or delete all app data simply by uninstalling Woolsy from the device.
8. International Users
Woolsy is available worldwide. Since main data stays on your device and the anonymous onboarding data we retain does not hold internationally sensitive personal identification records, there are no cross-border data transfer concerns.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and notify you through the app. Your continued use of Woolsy after changes are made constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
10. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for processing the minimal local data is:
- Contractual Necessity: The local storage of settings and patterns is necessary to provide the app's functionality.
- Legitimate Interest: Remembering your stash improves your user experience.
Since we don't collect or process personal data in any meaningful way, GDPR concerns are minimal.
11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have specific privacy rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). However, since Woolsy does not collect, sell, or share personal information, most CCPA provisions do not apply. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information. 12. Data Retention
We don't retain any personal data on our servers because we don't collect any data. Local data on your device is retained until you uninstall the app or delete the data through your device settings.
